According to The Association For Manufacturing Technology (AMT), the manufacturing technology orders reached $378.4 million in May, a 7.3% increase over to April. More specifically, forming and fabricating technologies showed a 64.8% increase over April and 117% over May 2018. However, not all industries were growing. For example, medical equipment orders decreased by more than half. The total orders number of manufacturing technology has also dropped 22% compared to 2018. The University of Michigan stated that the decline was driven by the income distribution negatively affect by tariffs. Nonetheless, this decline is considered modest and the US manufacturing activity is still expected to expand in the near future.
